2024 Central Illinois Volunteerism Conference

"One Voice, Many Generations: Shaping the Future of Volunteering"

Emphasizing the power of unity and the collective voice of different generations in shaping the future of volunteering, this theme promotes the idea that each generation has a vital role in advancing the nonprofit sector and serving the greater good.

The Central Illinois Volunteerism Conference is designed to help you develop skills that will enhance your relationship with the volunteers at your organization.

"Generational Diversity"

According to the National Council of Nonprofits, demand for nonprofit services continues to increase, paid staff shortages persist, and donor support is dropping. 62% of nonprofit CEOs identify recruiting enough volunteers as one of their biggest challenges. As if all those factors weren’t challenging enough, five generations will claim their space in the workplace for the first time in history, making collaboration and synergy more challenging than ever.

This teaching will provide insight into the unique characteristics of each generation and what matters to them, share practical ways to reach and build trust, and, ultimately, how to use generational diversity as a competitive advantage. Participants will learn how to connect, communicate, and value the diverse group of people who make up their team.

While we must remain vigilant in our fight for ethnic, gender, or income diversity, there is a tangible diversity that’s often missed or misrepresented by bosses and employees, coaches and young athletes, teachers and students, and family members. We are speaking of generational diversity, the widening gap between the five generations that still influence our world yet don’t seem to understand one another.
